Where’s your Berkeley third place?

Third places are all around us, but the best ones are often so naturally integrated into their environment that they can be nearly invisible. We made a map to see where members of The Daily Californian, as well as you, hang out.

This year, the Daily Cal is releasing a special issue dedicated to third places. Beyond your home (your “first place”) and your workplace (your “second place”) lives something different. Spaces which have evolved into routine places for congregation, socialization and above all, natural community. Locations in your life which you regularly visit, interacting with a recurring cast of characters in an ephemeral, informal context. These are your third places.

We polled staffers from our office, asking what some of their third places were. See the results below, and add your own if you want to share. Also, read more about third places in our special issue.
